죄는 성도를 무기력하게 합니다.
암논이 다말을 강간하고, 압살롬이 암논을 죽였습니다. 이들은 모두 다윗의 자녀였으며, 결국 이복형제들 사이에 살인이 벌어진 것입니다. 이 비극은 다윗의 범죄로부터 시작되었습니다. 아버지의 죄를 본 자식들은 죄에 둔감해졌습니다. 자녀를 훌륭하게 키우는 최선의 길은 부모가 삶으로 보여주는 것입니다. 부모가 믿음의 삶에 실패하면 자녀에게도 상처가 이어질 수 있습니다. 본문은 다윗이 죄를 범함으로 겪어야 한 몇 가지 아픈 결과를 보여줍니다.
첫째, 다윗은 소문에 휘둘렸습니다. 처음에 다윗은 압살롬이 형제 모두를 죽였다는 소문을 들었습니다. 그것은 잘못된 소문이었지만, 다윗은 그로 인해 순간적으로 더 큰 상심에 빠졌습니다. 다윗은 더 큰 위험 속에서도 담대함을 잃지 않았던 믿음의 사람이었습니다. 하지만 범죄 후 그는 드러누울 수밖에 없을 정도로(31절) 소문에 마음이 흔들리는 연약한 자가 되었습니다.
둘째, 다윗은 교활한 요나답의 위로를 받아야 했습니다. 요나답은 이 불행의 씨앗을 뿌린 교활한 자였습니다. 그는 암논을 충돌질해서 다말과 억지로 관계를 갖게 했습니다(13:3-5). 그리고 지금은 다윗 옆에서 압살롬이 아들 전부를 죽인 것은 아닐 것이라고 위로하고 있습니다. 다윗의 죄로 인해 그는 이런 교활한 자를 곁에 두고 그의 말을 들으며 겨우 마음을 진정시켜야 하는 불행한 처지가 되었습니다.
셋째, 다윗은 아무 것도 할 수 없는 무기력한 상황이 되었습니다. 압살롬은 암논을 죽인 후 그술로 도망갔습니다. 그술은 압살롬의 외할아버지 달매가 다스리는 지역입니다(3:3). 다윗의 장인이 다스리는 지역(나라)이었기에 다윗은 압살롬을 잡으러 그 지역에 들어갈 수 없었습니다. 다윗은 형제를 죽인 압살롬에 대해 아무런 조치도 내릴 수 없었습니다.
성경은 죄가 얼마나 우리를 무기력하게 하는지를 보여줍니다. 예수님께서 십자가에 죽으심으로 우리를 구원하신 것은 죽은 후에 천국에 가는 것만을 위한 것이 아닙니다. 십자가를 통한 구원은 우리를 죄로 인한 무기력함에서 구하고, 세상의 어둠을 이기며, 승리하는 주의 자녀가 되게 하기 위함입니다. 죄를 멀리고, 어둠을 이기며, 승리의 삶을 사는 주의 자녀가 되기를 축복합니다.
Sin makes the believers powerless.
Amnon raped Tamar, and Absalom killed Amnon. They were all David’s children, and the murder took place between stepbrothers. This tragedy began with David’s sin. David’s children who saw their father’s sin became insensitive to sin. The best way to raise children well is to show them by example in life. If parents fail in a life of faith, their children can also be hurt. The passage shows some painful consequences that David had to endure as a result of his sin.
First, David was caught up in rumors. Initially, David heard rumors that Absalom had killed all his brothers. Although it was a false rumor, David was momentarily shaken by the greater grief. David was a person of faith who did not lose his courage even in greater danger. However, after the sin, he became a weak person who was shaken by rumors to the point of collapsing (verse 31).
Secondly, David received comfort from the cunning Jobadab. Jonadab was a sly character who had sown the seed of this tragedy. He had insitgated Amnon to rape Tamar by force (13:3-5). Now he is comforting David, saying that Absalom might not have killed all of his sons. Due to David’s sin, he found himself in a miserable situation, having to listen to the words of such a cunning person and trying to calm his heart.
Thirdly, David found himself in a helpless situation where he could do nothing. After Absalom killed Amnon, he fled to Geshur. Geshur was a region controlled by Absalom’s grandfather, his mother’s father. Talmai (3:3). As it was the territory (kingdom) of David’s father-in-law, he could not enter the area to capture Absalom. David could not take any action against Absalom, who had killed his own brother.
The Bible shows us how sin makes us powerless. Jesus did not die on the cross just for us to go to heaven after we die. Salvation through the cross is intended to save us from the helplessness caused by sin, to overcome the darkness of the world, and to become victorious children of God. May you be blessed to live a life free from sin, overcome darkness, and become a victorious child of God.
