설교 중 메시지를 삶에 적용할 때 “오늘의 교회는”이라고 말하면서, 현대 교회의 문제를 진단하곤 한다. 그 때 “오늘의 교회 문제”에 나도 포함되는지 살펴본다. 내가 그 문제에 연류되어 있다고 느끼면 엄청 아프다. 반대로 나와는 상관 없다고 느끼면, 나만 의인이라고 주장하는 것이니, 위선이다. 그 또한 아파할 일이다. 이러나저러나 목사는 아파야 하나 보다. 그래서 예수님도 “우리가 죽어야 한다”고 하셨을까? 

 

When I apply lessons from my sermon to our lives, I ask, “How does this apply to modern churches?” And I try to examine the problems of “modern churches.” I also search if I find those problems in me. When I find them in me, it is very painful. On the contrary, if I don't find those problems in me, I would be asserting that I am right, which, since I am not perfect, only shows that I am a hypocrite. Such a conclusion should also fill me with pain. Thus, it seems that in all events, a pastor finds pain. Perhaps this is the reason that Jesus to tells us “we should die”?
