지난 해 12월 11일(목)에 허효정 성도(전 성가대 지휘)께서 피아노 리사이트을 우리교회 본당에서 했습니다. “위로하라. 내 백성을 위로하라”는 제목의 복음 메시지를 담은 피아노 연주를 설명과 함께 연주했습니다. 피아노 연주는 가사가 없기 때문에 곡에 대한 전 이해가 없으면 이해하기 어렵습니다. 하지만 다행스럽게도 이전에 매우 상세한 설명과 함께 연주를 들었었기 때문에 이번 연주에서는 더 깊은 감동을 받았습니다. 가장 인상적인 부분은 예수님이 십자가에 못박히는 장면이었습니다. 예수님을 십자가에 못박는 장면을 연주할 때 피아니스트는 손가락으로 건반을 두드리는 것이 아니라, 주먹으로 피아노 건반 서너개를 동시에 내리쳤습니다. 예수님을 십자가에 못 박는 망치 소리는 우둔한 제 마음을 치는 우뢰 소리처럼 느꼈습니다. 음악에 대한 전 이해가 있을 때 그 음악은 훨씬 더 큰 감동과 울림을 가져다 준다는 것을 알 수 있었습니다.

 

성경을 볼 때도 동일합니다. 하나님의 말씀을 단순히 문자로만 읽을 때는 말씀의 의미가 제한되지만, 말씀의 배경과 전후 흐름을 이해할 때는 훨씬 더 깊은 의미와 감동, 삶에 대한 해답을 얻습니다. 지난 수요일부터 성경의 파노라마를 시작했습니다. 성경의 흐름을 이해하고, 성경의 각 권을 따라 가면서 중요한 내용을 살피면서 놓치기 쉬운 말씀의 초점을 공부합니다. 첫 시간에는 구약의 전체적인 흐름을 간략히 보았습니다. 이번 수요일에는 구약을 간단히 정리하고 신약을 보려고 합니다. 음악에 대한 전 이해를 가질 때 음악을 더 깊이 감상할 수 있듯이, 성경의 흐름을 더 깊이 이해할 때 말씀의 더 깊은 능력을 경험할 것입니다. 오늘 수요일에 계속되는 성경의 파노라마에 성도님들을 초대합니다. 감사합니다.

 

 

Hyojung Huh, a former choir conductor of this church, played the piano recital at our church building on Thursday, 11th of December, 2014. She did this performance with message of the gospel and with the title  “Comfort, comfort my people” explaining what it meant part by part. Piano music can be difficult to interpret because it does not have lyrics, but because I had fortunately heard the explanation about what the music means before she played, I was much more touched. One of the most touching parts was when Jesus Christ was crucified on the cross. When the pianist played the scene of his crucifixion, she did not simply play the notes, but smashed three or four notes with her fist at the same time. I felt the notes like a hammer to my heart. I realized that the more we know the meaning of music, the more it touches us.

 

It’s the same when we read the Bible. When we try to read the Word of God as only words, our understanding of its meaning is limited, but when we understand its background and context, we can have a much deeper understanding, feel more touching points, and the answers to our lives. Last Wednesday we started the panorama of the Bible. We try to understand the context of the Bible, study some parts prone to misinterpretation, and survey the flow of each book of the Bible. At the first class, we looked through the main flow of the Old Testament briefly. On the coming Wednesday, we will survey the parts of Old Testament and study the New Testament. Just as you can understand music better when you know music more, you can experience the bigger power of the Bible when you understand the context and bigger messages of the Bible. Thank you.
